Girard Perregaux has over 220 years of watchmaking history, starting in 1791 when goldsmith and watchmaker Jean-François Bautte gathered professionals in every phase of watchmaking in a single entity. Therein Geneva, for the first time he produced an array of jewelry and timepieces and became well-known for its specialty watches, especially those shaped as miniature flowers and butterflies.
The firm was inherited by Jean’s son and son-in-law, and in 1906 it was acquired by the Girard-Perregaux famous for his advances in escapements, especially the tourbillon.
